White Ferret
By Giggles Anderson
summertime is here.
fleas play hide and seek on me.
my hairs need a cut.
peaches picks me up.
white fluffy ball under arm,
to the truck we go.
thru the streets– breeze. pass!
all trees leave a blurry sight.
Mothers dont wait up.
traffic signal (S)TOP
wheels grind, pavement squeals, we land.
pet store on the right.
Doors open and shut.
Barking! Blowers whisper loud…
“Please don’t leave me, hair.”
behind bars I wait,
water torture does meet me
at palmetto bay.
groomer wets me down.
vermin drown in my sorrow.
no more itchy scalp.
My! wet body shakes,
droplets of hope spring about,
cover me humble.
sent back to my cell.
yes, I got my one phone call–
Mom is sending bail.
the blower dries me
finally white, warm and dry,
Nice lady. Scissors.
Snip, shave, cut my nails,
hairy snow blankets the floor.
white ferret i am.
a spritz of vodka
does not a mint julep make.
i smell like the sky.
bailbondsman shows up,
pays the store a pretty dime,
i am clean and free.
